About Sharon Holroyd
Bsc (hons) P&O; MBAPO, HCPC Registration No. PO02752
I qualified from The University of Salford in 2005 with a first class Bachelor of Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics with honours.
Over the last 10 years I have specialised in Orthotics, working within NHS Trusts across the South of England. I currently work part time as an Orthotist for the NHS at several hospitals throughout Beds, Herts, and Bucks.
I have a broad base of experience in Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Neurology, and Diabetes; and specialise in treating lower limb conditions of musculoskeletal origin.
Specialist Interests:
-
Gait analysis and biomechanical assessment of walking and running
-
Sports injury in recreational and elite athletes
-
Orthotic treatment of common foot conditions such as heel pain, flattened arches and forefoot pain
-
Design of custom made orthopaedic footwear for people struggling with difficult to fit feet, eg. extra wide feet, bunions, clawed toes and different sized feet
-
Designing orthoses for those with neurological condition to compensate for weakened muscles and normalise limb alignment to facilitate weight bearing and regain stability in the affected limb
-
Foot Mobilisation Techniques can help to put the bones of the foot and lower leg back into their correct poition. This technique can help to get the normal gliding motion back into the small joints of the foot that have gradually stiffened up over time or post injury
-
Kinesio Taping is widely used by athletes to help them recover from injury and improve performance. It is useful in treating many musculo-skeletal conditions such as plantarfaciitis, tendonpathies, ligament strains and overuse injuries. It may be used as an alternative or adjunct therapy to Orthotics

The clinic room itself has been purpose built as an office space and equipped with laminate flooring, a brand new full sized treadmill for video gait analysis and a treatment couch.
A small adjacent room is kitted out as a small workshop so that any minor adjustments to the Orthotics can be made onsite.
